What’s included with my Skybrary classroom subscription?
Your subscription includes: • Accounts for up to 35 students

What grade levels is Skybrary best for?
Skybrary is ideal for preK-3rd grade, but it may also suit other grade levels depending on your classroom needs. 

 

How does the 30-day free trial work?
The free trial gives you 30 days of full access to hundreds of books, video field trips, and a sample of our curriculum units. If you enjoy the trial, you can subscribe to unlock the complete experience.

 

What subscription plans are available?
We offer a Classroom Plan (up to 35 students) and a School Plan (10 classrooms, up to 350 students). Explore pricing options at Skybrary’s purchasing page.

 

I have more than 35 students—do I need multiple subscriptions?
If your class exceeds 35 students, contact us at Skybrary@RIF.org for assistance.

 

How much does Skybrary cost?
Classroom Plans cost $179/year, and School Plans cost $1,450/year for up to 350 students. Discounts are available for bulk purchases—contact Skybrary@RIF.org for details.

 

Do you accept purchase orders?
Yes. Once you choose a plan and create an account you will be able to purchase Skybrary for school either by credit card or by completing our order form and sending a copy of your P.O. Further instructions are available once you register.

 

Can I start a plan at anytime?
Yes. The Classroom and School plans are for 12 months and can begin at anytime.

 

I paid for a subscription but didn’t get a confirmation email—what should I do?
Check your spam or junk mail folder for the confirmation email. If you still don’t see it, contact us at Skybrary@RIF.org, and add us to your address book for future emails.

 

Will my credit card be charged during the free trial?
No. We don’t collect payment information during the trial. After 30 days, you’ll have the option to subscribe via credit card, purchase order, or check.

 

Does Skybrary include Reading Rainbow videos?
No, Skybrary is a new digital library featuring exclusive Video Field Trips hosted by LeVar Burton.

 

What devices work with Skybrary?
Skybrary works on desktops, laptops, and Chromebooks via the web, as well as on iPads (Gen 2 or higher) using Safari. There’s no Skybrary app for classroom use yet.

 

What are the system requirements for Skybrary?
Skybrary works on most desktops, laptops, and Chromebooks with broadband internet. You’ll need JavaScript and third-party cookies enabled. For the viewing curriculum, a PDF reader is required (like Adobe Reader).
Make sure your device meets these minimum hardware and software requirements for the best experience: 
 

Windows (Desktops and Laptops):
• Windows 7 or later
• Chrome 33+, Firefox 33+, or Internet Explorer 11+
• 1.6 GHz processor or faster
• 512 MB of RAM or more
 

Mac (Desktops and Laptops):
• OS X 10.9+
• Chrome 33+, Safari 8+, or Firefox 33+
• 1.6 GHz processor or faster
• 512 MB of RAM or more
 

Chromebooks:
• Chrome OS 33+
• 1.6 GHz processor or faster
• 2 GB of RAM or more
 

iPad (Mobile Browser):
• iOS 9+
• Safari 9+
• A5 chip minimum (A7+ recommended)
• iPad 2 or newer, with the latest iOS installed
 

All Platforms:
• Screen resolution of at least 800 x 600
• Speakers or headphones for audio
• Broadband internet (at least 100 kbps per device)
• JavaScript and third-party cookies enabled

 

Note: Android tablets are not supported at this time.

 

How fast should my internet be?
A broadband connection with download speeds above 0.5 Mbps is recommended for smooth performance. Test your speed at Speedtest.net.

 

On which devices does Skybrary work?
With Skybrary's service, one sign-in enables you full access to your subscription, whether you are on the Web, iPads, and iPhones 

 

Which browsers work best for Skybrary?
We recommend the latest version of Google Chrome. Skybrary also works well in Firefox, Safari, and Edge.

 

Can I access Skybrary in a public library or afterschool program?
Yes! As long as your institution doesn't block Skybrary and your device supports it, you can access your account from anywhere.

 

What types of books are in Skybrary?
Skybrary features a curated library of real, high-quality children’s books with light animations and narration by celebrities to enhance the reading experience.

 

Can books be read offline?
No, books must be accessed through a browser with an active internet connection.

 

Is Skybrary safe for kids?
Yes, Skybrary takes child safety and privacy seriously. We use high-level encryption and comply with COPPA. Learn more in our Privacy Policy.

 

Are subscription discounts available for schools and libraries?
Yes, we offer discounts for bulk purchases. Contact Skybrary@RIF.org for details.

 

Does Skybrary work with interactive whiteboards (smartboards)?
Yes, Skybrary is compatible with interactive whiteboards.

 

Is there a limit on when we can access Skybrary?
No limits! With a paid subscription, you and your students can access Skybrary 24/7. Free trial users, however, cannot access it from home.

 

Is Skybrary available in other languages?
Currently, Skybrary is only available in English.

 

Does each student have their own username and login?
Yes. Whether you are using the free trail or have purchased a plan every student gets their own login so they can access the reading service anytime, anywhere. This also enables the service to track each students usage.

 

How do I set up my classroom and add students?
There are two ways to roster students:
1. You can roster using Clever.
2. Or you can sign into the Teacher Dashboard, go to the "Class Roster" tab, and click "Add Students." Here you can upload a .CSV file or add students manually. For paid subscribers, you can also add parent emails for home access.

 

I had a Free Account but now I want to purchase a plan, will my classroom roster and student data be saved?
Yes, if you have enjoyed our free trail, then the program has saved your account information including student roster so your students can continue unlimited access and their reading history will be saved.

 

Tracking & Managing Subscriptions

 

How can I track my students’ progress?
Skybrary’s teacher management tools let you track each student’s reading activity, including the books they’ve read and the videos they’ve watched.

 

How do I recover my password?
Use the password recovery link [HERE]. If you need help, contact Skybrary@RIF.org.

 

How can I renew my subscription?
To renew with a Purchase Order, submit the order by fax to 202-536-3517 or email Skybrary@RIF.org. You’ll receive a confirmation email once processed.

 

Can I pause my subscription over breaks?
No, subscriptions cannot be paused or frozen. Skybrary is available year-round.

 

How do I cancel my subscription?
Subscriptions are non-refundable after purchase. We encourage educators to use the free 30-day trial to ensure it meets your needs.

 

Technical Support & General Tips

 

What should I do if I experience technical issues with Skybrary?
First, check our system requirements to ensure compatibility. Try clearing your browser cache or, if using Internet Explorer, switch to Chrome, Firefox, or Safari.

 

Why did my bulk teacher upload fail (.csv file)?
• Email addresses may be incomplete or formatted incorrectly (e.g., missing "@", missing domain).
• Some teachers may already have personal Skybrary subscriptions.
• Teacher accounts may already be linked to other classrooms or administrators.
• Teacher emails may be registered as parent accounts.

 

To avoid this:
• Double-check your data for errors.
• Confirm whether teachers have existing Skybrary accounts.
• Use alternate emails if needed.

How do I set up classroom computers for Skybrary?
1. Sign in to your Teacher Dashboard on each computer.
2. Scroll down, select your classroom name from the Bookmark Creator, and click "Go to Student Sign In."
3. Bookmark the Student Sign In page for future use.
4. Return to the Teacher Dashboard and log out. Repeat on all computers.
5. Students can now sign in and enjoy Skybrary.

 

How do my students log out of Skybrary?
From the island screen, click the "x" at the bottom left, then select "Log Out."

 

Why can't I download a book?
If you experience download issues, try these steps:

 

• Log out and back in (for web users).
• On a tablet, force close the app and restart it.
• Download one book at a time and monitor progress in the backpack.
• Keep the app in the foreground and prevent your tablet from sleeping (Settings > General > Auto-Lock).
• Ensure you have enough storage (at least 500 MB free space).

 

 

Why can't I play videos on Skybrary?
This could be due to school firewall settings that block video streaming. Contact your IT department to adjust these settings.

 

Why can't I hear videos?
• Check the computer's volume and ensure speakers are turned on.
• Unplug any headphones that may be connected.
• If the issue persists, the problem could be related to the computer's sound settings or hardware.

 

Why do videos play slowly?
Video speed depends on the computer's performance. Older computers may run slower.

 

Are Skybrary videos closed captioned?
No, we currently do not support Closed Captioning.

Skybrary for Educators Using Clever


How do I set up Skybrary with Clever for the first time?
If you’re a new user:
1. Log in to your Clever account.
2. Search for Skybrary in your district’s Clever portal.
3. Request to connect Skybrary with your district.
4. Once approved, we will email you instructions to help with setup.
After setup, you and your students will be able to access Skybrary directly through Clever without needing a separate login.

 

How do I access Skybrary through Clever?
Log in to your Clever account and request to connect with Skybrary through your district’s Clever portal. We’ll guide you through payment after that. If you're using Clever, please don’t buy subscriptions directly from this site.

 

How long does it take to set up Skybrary with Clever?
The setup process for connecting Skybrary with Clever typically takes at least 2 business days. Once you've requested the connection through your Clever portal, we will notify you when it's ready.

 

Please plan accordingly and feel free to reach out to Skybrary support at Skybrary@RIF.org if you have any questions during the setup period.

 

Can my students access Skybrary through Clever?
Yes! Once Skybrary is connected to Clever, your students can sign in using their Clever accounts. No additional login is needed—just a seamless connection through the Clever portal.

 

Do I need to purchase a Skybrary subscription if I’m using Clever?
If you plan to use Skybrary through Clever, please do not purchase a subscription directly from this Skybrary website. Your district or school can arrange payment through Clever during the connection process. For assistance with payment options, contact Skybrary@RIF.org.

 

What should I do if I encounter issues with Clever integration?
If you’re having trouble linking Skybrary with Clever or experience any other technical issues, please reach out to Skybrary support at Skybrary@RIF.org. We’ll guide you through troubleshooting and ensure you can access Skybrary through Clever smoothly.

Skybrary for Parents/Families


How do I sign up for Skybrary To sign up for Skybrary, visit our website or download the app from the Apple App Store on your iPad or iPhone. Follow the prompts to create an account and start your free 30-day trial.

 

Where can I get Skybrary?
You can access Skybrary on the Web (right here on our site) and download the app on your iPad or iPhone through the Apple App Store.

 

Can I use Skybrary on multiple devices?
Yes, you can use Skybrary on multiple devices. Simply sign in with your account on each device to access your subscription.

 

On which devices does Skybrary work?
Skybrary works on the Web, iPads, and iPhones. One sign-in gives you full access to your subscription across all these devices.

 

Subscription Details

How does the free trial work
When you sign up, you get a one-month free trial with unrestricted access to all of the books and video field trips in our library, available instantly on your supported device.

 

Will my credit card be charged at the time I sign up for the one-month free trial?
No, you will not be billed until after your one-month free trial ends. If you enjoy your Skybrary trial, do nothing at the end of the trial, and your subscription will automatically continue. There are no commitments, and you can cancel anytime.

 

How much does the subscription cost?
Your first month of Skybrary is free! After the trial period, the subscription costs $4.99 a month or $39.99 annually. Both options give you access to all of our books and videos on the Web, iPads, and iPhones.  

 

How do I manage my subscription?
You can manage your subscription by logging into your account on our website. From there, you can update your payment information, change your subscription plan, and turn off auto-renew if needed.

 

What happens if I cancel my subscription before the trial period ends?
If you cancel your subscription before the trial period ends, you will not be charged. You will still have access to Skybrary until the end of the trial period.

 

I have more than one child. Do I need to buy separate subscriptions for each one?
No, each subscription includes 3 separate profiles, so each of your children can enjoy and customize their own backpack.

 

Are there subscription discounts available for schools and libraries?
Yes, schools and libraries interested in purchasing our educational product at a discount or in bulk should contact us at Skybrary@RIF.org.

 

Content and Features

Does Skybrary just play videos from the original TV series?
No! Skybrary is a brand new digital library service with hundreds of interactive books and exclusive Video Field Trips hosted by LeVar Burton.

 

What age is Skybrary for? Will it be available for older children?
Skybrary is best suited for children aged 3-8. However, many older children also enjoy it, as reading levels can vary. Skybrary is also a great tool for students with special needs or developmental delays.

 

What kinds of books are in Skybrary?
Skybrary offers books from leading children's publishers on 7 themed islands, each home to hundreds of quality books and videos that celebrate diversity, family, and the world around us. Each book is lightly animated and can be read aloud by a narrator using the Read To Me feature.

 

How often is new content added to Skybrary?
Stay tuned for new announcements for the latest additions to our library.

 

Is there a limit to how many books my child can read each month?
No, our service is unlimited! Kids can "check out" 5 books at a time for offline reading, but they can read as many books as they want online without adding them to their backpack.

 

Can my child read books offline?
Yes! Your child can add up to 5 books to their digital backpack for offline reading. After reading, they can return the book and add a new one when connected to the Internet.

 

Can I track my child's reading progress?
Yes, Skybrary includes features that allow you to track your child's reading progress. You can see which books they've read and how much time they've spent reading.

 

Is there a way to filter content by age or reading level?
Yes, you can filter content by age or reading level to find books that are best suited for your child.

 

What is the "Read To Me" feature?
The "Read To Me" feature allows books to be read aloud by a narrator, which can help young readers follow along and improve their reading skills.

 

Technical and Safety Information

Is Skybrary a safe environment for my child?
Yes, Skybrary is ad-free and compliant with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). We use the highest level of encryption for data security and never sell or exchange information with third parties. For more details, please see our Privacy Policy.

 

How fast does my internet connection need to be?
For the best experience, download speeds should be at least 0.5 megabits per second (Mbps). You can test your download speed at Speedtest.net.

 

Which web browsers and operating systems are compatible with Skybrary?
Skybrary is compatible with the latest versions of Chrome, Safari (on Mac), Firefox, IE 11, and newer versions on the Web. For iPhone/iPad, it requires iOS 6.0 or later.

 

Will it be available everywhere / every country?
Yes, Skybrary is available globally, unless restricted by specific countries.

 

Will Skybrary be available in other languages?
We are exploring possibilities to add Spanish language books. Stay tuned!

 

How do I update the Skybrary app?
To update the Skybrary app, visit the Apple App Store on your iPad or iPhone and check for updates. If an update is available, you can download and install it directly from the store.
